The "Grapefruit Garden" is located only 12 kilometers north-east of Port-Louis and is open to visitors everyday between 6am until 6pm. Enter and take your sweet time to discover this natural wonder. Commonly referred to as the Grapefruit Garden, this oasis, Sir Seewosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden, was named after “the Father of the Nation”. Shielded by a wrought iron gate, Mon Plaisir is a chateau formerly owned by Mahé de la Bourdonnais who ordered the planting of a vegetable garden. It was here that Pierre Poivre attempted growing spices for the first time. Céré, a notable botanist, was next in charge of the garden and enriched it with cinnamomum trees, cloves and rare tropical tree species. Stroll through traveller’s palms, almond trees and pepper plants shading the garden’s alleys. It is most notable for its talipot palms known for blossoming once every fifty years, before dying. Trou-aux-Biches and Mont-Choisy are located only 10 kilometers south-east of Grand Bay. Trou-aux-Biches is a popular beach bordered with luxury beachfront resorts opening up to Anse de Mont-Choisy, an idyllic place for picnicking under plush coconut palm trees. At the mouth of the bay is Pointe aux Canonniers, once the French colonizers’ military camps. 4 kilometers away from Trou-aux-Biches is the Triolet Temple in the village of Triolet, a temple very strict towards visitors.
